Last week saw the annual SportsPro Live event take over the O2. Billed as sport’s largest technology conference, it explored the meeting points between tech, business and fandom.
Our Head of Partnerships, Sian Kilgour, spent two days there listening to some of the sport and tech. industry’s most influential leaders. One thing was loud and clear – sport is in the midst of an evolutionary era. From immersive fan trends to the ever-increasing demand for always-on digital content – brands and rights holders are in a constant race to stay ahead of the curve. One man leading the way is Jon Dutton, CEO of the Rugby League World Cup, who is in charge of bringing the tournament to England in 2021. Speaking at the event, Jon said “At the moment, sport is about innovation and iteration. We have to look, learn and listen to really understand the customer and then provide them with an immersive experience.”
Sian caught up with Jon at our London offices and in the first of her three-part content series, he talks about his diversity strategy, plans for the tournament and how he ended up leading what is set to be the biggest and best Rugby League World Cup in history. Watch the interview here.
